Tuition estimates use Manhattanville’s 2026-2027 online FNP rate of $990 per credit plus the FNP exam fee, FNP lab fee, and $80 per-semester registration fee.

Two start terms a year, one 3-day campus visit, and 6 credits every semester. Manhattanville’s online MS admits FNP cohorts in both spring and fall, runs part-time throughout, and requires no RN experience to apply, only direct patient care experience before the first practicum.

540 clinical hours sits just above the 500-hour certification floor and below the 600 to 700 hours common among FNP programs. Only 90 of those hours are pediatric, clinicals are anchored to New York City-area sites, and the bursar lists preceptor fees of $1,250 to $1,400 for Optum and Essen placements on top of tuition.

Master of Science, Family Nurse Practitioner

The estimated tuition for the Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner at Manhattanville is approximately $44,240 (42 credits at $990/credit, plus $2,660 in FNP and registration fees). The program can generally be completed in about 2.3 years (7 semesters), running part-time through fall, spring, and summer.

MS Curriculum

Flat 6-credit load every term. All seven terms carry exactly 6 credits, usually two courses or one course bundle. That is a predictable load for a nurse working full time, but it also means no term can be doubled up to finish faster.

Core first, clinical last. The first two terms cover theory, leadership and policy, research, and ethics. Terms three and four cover pharmacology, pathophysiology, and the physical exam course with its lab. All clinical work sits in the final three terms, so students have about a year and a half to build the direct patient care experience required before practicum.

Practicum order can flip. The catalog lets terms five and six run in either order: the pediatric and women’s health practicum, or the adult practicum. The adult and older adult practicum with complex chronic care always comes last, alongside the Fitzgerald certification review and a pass/fail comprehensive exam.

MS Clinical Requirements

  • Total: 540 hours, from the course catalog (180 + 180 + 180)
  • NUR 5130C: 90 pediatric hours and 90 women’s health hours
  • NUR 5140C: 180 adult health hours
  • NUR 5150C: 180 adult and older adult hours, focused on complex and chronic primary care problems
  • Ratio: 90 clinical hours per clinical credit (6 clinical credits)
  • Sites: New York City-area healthcare facilities; the school cites more than 10 clinical placement sites in the metro area
  • Prerequisite: direct patient care experience before practicum begins

540 hours clears the 500-hour certification floor but falls below the 600 to 700 hours many FNP programs require. The load itself is manageable: 180 hours per term works out to about 12 hours a week across a 15-week semester, more in a shorter summer term. The trade-off is depth. With 360 hours in adult settings, pediatrics and women’s health get 90 hours each, so students who want family practice with many children should seek a pediatric-heavy site where they can.

You Should Know
  • Neither the program page nor the catalog says who secures preceptors. The bursar’s preceptor fees for Optum ($1,250) and Essen ($1,400) suggest school-brokered placements with those organizations, but whether every student uses them is not clearly stated.
  • Clinical placements are described as NYC-area. The program does not say whether students living outside the New York metro area can complete hours locally.
  • The 540-hour total is not published on the MS program page. It is summed from the three practicum course records and matches the 540 hours the certificate page publishes.

MS Admissions

Manhattanville admits MS students twice a year and does not require prior RN experience to apply.

  • BS or BSN in nursing from an accredited institution
  • Unencumbered RN license
  • College-level statistics with a grade of B or higher
  • No GRE or Miller Analogies Test
  • Direct patient care experience before practicum
  • Application through NursingCAS: transcripts, personal statement, resume, and one letter of recommendation
  • Deadlines: October 1 for spring entry; April 1 for the first round of fall decisions
  • Enrollment deposit: $250
You Should Know
  • Fall 2026 is already full. The next opening is the Spring 2027 cohort, with applications due October 1.
  • No minimum GPA is published for the MS. The certificate requires a 3.0 undergraduate GPA.
  • Manhattanville’s licensure disclosure states the MS meets APRN educational requirements in all 50 states. The catalog lists New York State licensure as a program goal, and New York is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so out-of-state nurses should confirm clinical site options before applying.

Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate

The estimated tuition for the Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate at Manhattanville is approximately $32,200 (30 credits at $990/credit, plus $2,500 in FNP and registration fees). The program can generally be completed in about 1.7 years (5 semesters) of part-time study.

Certificate Curriculum

The certificate is the MS without its first two terms. It drops the 12-credit theory, leadership, research, and ethics core and keeps everything else, including all three practicums, the 540 clinical hours, the campus residency, and the comprehensive exam.

Because it keeps the full pharmacology, pathophysiology, and physical exam sequence, the certificate fits master’s-prepared nurses without APRN coursework, such as nurse educators or leaders. Nurse practitioners in another population may be retaking courses they have already completed.

  • NUR 5100 Advanced Pharmacology (3)
  • NUR 5110 Advanced Pathophysiology (3)
  • NUR 5120 and 5120L Advanced Physical Examination and Fundamentals of Diagnostics, with lab (6)
  • NUR 5130, 5130C, 5130S Advanced Family Nurse Practitioner I (6)
  • NUR 5140, 5140C, 5140S Advanced Family Nurse Practitioner II (6)
  • NUR 5150, 5150C, 5150S Advanced Family Nurse Practitioner III, with comprehensive exam (6)

More curriculum details are available here.

You Should Know
  • No gap analysis or course waiver policy is published. It is not clearly stated whether prior graduate pharmacology, pathophysiology, or assessment credit can reduce the 30 credits.

Certificate Clinical Requirements

  • Total: 540 hours, published on the certificate plan of study and confirmed by the course records
  • Same three 180-hour practicums as the MS, in fixed order: pediatrics and women’s health, adults, then adults and older adults
  • Direct patient care experience required before practicum

Certificate students start clinical work in their third term, a year earlier than MS students. The hour volume and placement questions are the same as the MS.

Certificate Admissions

The certificate carries two gates the MS does not: a New York RN license and a 10-year recency limit on the master’s degree.

  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program, conferred within the last 10 years
  • Unencumbered New York State RN license
  • Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • 3-credit statistics course with a grade of B or higher
  • No GRE or Miller Analogies Test
  • Direct patient care experience before practicum
  • Transcripts from bachelor’s and master’s degrees, RN license, resume, personal statement, and one letter of recommendation
You Should Know
  • The certificate page still says it is enrolling for Fall 2025. Current start terms and deadlines are not clearly stated.
  • The certificate launched in Fall 2025. Manhattanville’s nursing program pages state that its post-graduate APRN certificate is CCNE-accredited, while its School of Nursing page names only the baccalaureate and master’s programs.
  • State boards set their own rules for nurses adding a population focus through a certificate. The licensure disclosure lists the certificate as meeting requirements in all 50 states, but the New York RN license requirement limits who can enroll.

Tuition

Manhattanville charges $990 per credit for its online FNP program in 2026-2027. The rate is the same for New York residents and out-of-state students. FNP-specific fees are billed on top of that rate.

ItemMSCertificate
Tuition ($990 × credits)$41,580 (42 credits)$29,700 (30 credits)
Exam fee (billed with NUR 5100)$1,300$1,300
Lab fee (billed with NUR 5120L)$800$800
Registration fee ($80 per semester)$560 (7 semesters)$400 (5 semesters)
Estimated total$44,240$32,200

Totals are derived from the 2026-2027 graduate tuition and fees schedule. Manhattanville does not publish a program total.

  • Tuition: $990 per credit, online FNP program
  • Exam fee: $1,300, one time
  • Lab fee: $800, one time
  • Registration fee: $80 per semester
  • FNP enrollment deposit: $250
  • Graduate application fee: $80

Be aware that:

  • Preceptor fees of $1,250 (Optum) and $1,400 (Essen) are listed separately. The schedule does not say whether they are charged once or per practicum. Charged once, they add $1,250 to $1,400. Charged for all three practicums, they add $3,750 to $4,200.
  • The FNP rate rose from $925 to $990 per credit between 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, a 7% increase. Rates for later years are not published.
  • The $80 registration fee appears under the Master of Science heading. Applying it to the certificate is an assumption.
  • The schedule does not say whether the $250 enrollment deposit is credited toward tuition.
  • The exam fee is not described. The program page says students use the Fitzgerald certification review course, but does not link it to this fee.
  • Travel for the 3-day campus residency in Purchase is not included.

Manhattanville’s price is simple: one per-credit rate for all students, a short list of fees, and no residency premium. The open question is the preceptor fees. The schedule does not say who is charged or how often. Ask admissions how placements are assigned before comparing the MS against programs priced near $45,000.

Why Choose This FNP Program?

Best suited for working BSN nurses in the New York metro area who want a part-time online FNP they can start in spring or fall without waiting a year.

Flexible entry. The MS admits two cohorts a year and does not require RN experience to apply. Stony Brook and NYU Meyers both admit FNP students once a year in summer. A newer nurse can apply now and build patient care experience during the first year of core courses.

A steady weekly workload. Every term is 6 credits. Clinical terms average about 12 hours a week, and the only campus requirement is one 3-day residency. That makes the time commitment easy to plan around a full-time job. Most coursework is online, but some sessions are synchronous, so expect set class times.

What you give up. 540 clinical hours is a lean clinical experience, with only 90 pediatric hours. Nurses who want a larger clinical volume or a school-arranged placement with published terms should look closely at how Manhattanville assigns preceptors and what the Optum and Essen fees cover. Students outside the New York City area should confirm local site options before applying.

Accreditation

Manhattanville’s master’s degree program in nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The university’s nursing pages state that its post-graduate APRN certificate program is also CCNE-accredited, which covers the FNP Advanced Certificate. CCNE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and graduation from a CCNE-accredited program is what the national certification boards look for when approving exam applicants.

Manhattanville University is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Institutional accreditation supports federal financial aid eligibility and credit recognition by other schools and employers. The School of Nursing and Health Sciences programs are also registered with the New York State Education Department.

Graduates of both tracks complete the coursework and 540 supervised clinical hours required to sit for the national FNP certification exam (AANP or ANCC). Passing that exam is the credential most state boards, including New York, rely on for nurse practitioner authorization.
